The San Bernardino's 66ers are San Bernardino's only-A minor league baseball team in the California League and have enjoyed tremendous success over the years. The club has won league championships in 1995, 1999, and 2000 as a Dodgers affiliate. They then captured two more league crowns in 2003 and 2006 as a farm team for the Seattle Mariners. They have become the fourth team in California League history to win back-to-back titles when they won the crown in 2000.
With a new state-of-the-art stadium in downtown San Bernardino, the 66ers drew over 270,000 fans in its first full year in the ballpark, providing Inland Empire residents with a Crown Jewel for entertainment and value. In March of 2002, the 66ers parent club at the time, the Seattle Mariners, was invited and then played an exhibition game at Arrowhead Credit Union Park. It was the first time in 30 years that a major league team played a game in San Bernardino. Kevin Costner played for the 66ers in that game and started as shortstop before finishing up with an inning as pitcher. The highlight of the game was when Costner pitched to Seattle manager Lou Piniella in the final inning. Costner did battle Piniella right to the wire before issuing a walk.
